OTTAWA – The Chair of the International Council of Police Representative Associations, Mr. Tom Stamatakis, today released the following statement regarding apparent terror attacks in London, England that took place over the weekend.

“On behalf of the international policing community, I would like to condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the recent attack that took place against the civilian population of London. It is a testament to the resilience, strength and endurance of the people of London that they have committed to ensuring that these attacks do not succeed in sowing discord or uncertainty, and I was inspired to see images of Londoners going about their regular business, even in the aftermath of such unspeakable horror.”

“I would also like to salute the unparalleled bravery of the police personnel who responded to these attacks. Colleagues from the British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police Service showed exceptional heroism and resolve as they rushed towards the incident. I know I speak for their colleagues worldwide when I offer our most sincere wishes for a quick and full recovery for the officers of the British Transport Police Federation and the Metropolitan Police Federation who were injured in the attacks.”

“This incident certainly underscores the importance and necessity of properly equipping police personnel around the world with the tools and training necessary to confront the challenges posed by these sorts of indiscriminate attacks, both to ensure the safety of the communities our members protect, and the personal safety of the officers who are called to respond.”

“There can be no doubt that without the rapid response of our professional colleagues, this incident would have been even worse, and police personnel around the world salute the courage of our colleagues in the United Kingdom, and we offer our full support as they continue to confront the modern challenges presented by terrorism and terrorist attacks against our cities and communities.”
